| Blog | A Blog (a contraction of the term "Weblog") is a type of website, or a specific section of one, where content (known as 'articles' or 'posts') is published regularly and is typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent appears first). Starting out as a sort of online diary for sharing personal thoughts, it has evolved into a powerful tool for information, marketing, and personal branding. What It's For / Why It's ImportantUnlike a 'static' website (which presents information that rarely changes, such as an 'About Us' page), a blog is dynamic. Its strategic importance is huge:
When It Is Used / In What Context It Is UsefulThe blog is a versatile tool suitable for multiple purposes:
Practical ExampleA company selling accounting software has a website with static pages ('Pricing', 'Features', 'Contact Us'). It decides to launch a company blog. On this blog, it publishes weekly articles such as: "Guide to Electronic Invoicing 2026", "5 Mistakes to Avoid in Your VAT Return", "How to Save Tax Legally". In this way, it attracts professionals and small businesses searching for this information on Google, positions itself as an industry expert, and offers a call-to-action to try its software. Extra InsightThe term "Weblog" was coined in 1997 by Jorn Barger. The abbreviation "Blog" was created in 1999 by Peter Merholz, who jokingly split "weblog" into the phrase "we blog". Today, blogs are managed using specific software called CMS (Content Management System). The most popular by far is WordPress, but there are many other platforms such as Blogger, Medium, Wix, and Squarespace. |
